| The Brain Factor |
Napoleon Hill in his famous classic ‘Think and Grow Rich’ shares the account of the man who fell 3 feet short of discovering gold because he gave up. Lets imagine however that he found it. What use is gold when discovered if nothing is done with it. Its value is only realised when it is used or exchanged for something of greater value. The mere discovery of it would amount to nothing if he did nothing with it. Likewise our potential is no use till we acknowledge, realise and translate it into use. Did you know how that the majority of us do not use any more than 5-10% of our brains according to scientists. Einstein was classified as a genius and he only used 13%.
| Caterpillar or Butterfly? |
It is a bit like having a powerful computer at your disposal and only using a small fraction of its capability. The brain is a powerful mind tool. Just as learning the different functions of your computer and how to use them means achieving more in less time so it is with the brain. What do you think would be possible if you could tap in beyond 10% of your brain? Many of us go round believing that we are caterpillars rather than butterflies and that limiting belief prevents us from metamorphosising into who we were made to be. We have been conditioned by society to looking outside of us for answers to what we can achieve. Yet dormant within us lies a field of gold. Many scientists are predicting the next millennium as one heralding the discovery of the mind

| The Matrix - Know who you are! |
In the science fiction film The Matrix there is a defining moment when Morpheus is training Neo for combat against the enemy, and he beckons Neo to stop trying to hit him, and hit him. He tells Neo that Neo is faster than what he is showing and adds ‘Don’t think you are, Know you are!’ There is a difference between thinking we can do something and knowing we can It is this same process of knowing that enabled me to walk on hot coals and not get burned, break through a plank of thick wood, co-author an international bestseller and coach one of my dream clients in the football premiership league. What will it be for you? What you are capable of will ultimately be defined by your beliefs and the rules of the game you set for your life My first invitation to you today is therefore to take responsibility as of today for deciding to get to know yourself because if you really knew yourself and what you were potentially capable of, the things you could achieve would be phenomenal. When was the last time you did something for the first time? Try something new and find out what you are truly capable of! In the next issue we look at goals and dreams and their connection to our mind

How do I achieve my dreams and goals?
Quick Links...
| Dear anita,
Below is your April 2006 newsletter, Goals and Dreams. Please feel free to email me comments or questions
| Dream with purpose |
Most people consider goals and dreams as something external to themselves that if and when they achieve it, it will give them x, y,z. In my early days of coaching clients I was guilty of the 3 pronged approach ( what do you want to have or achieve, where are you now, what do you need to do to get there) Whilst the above is not entirely invalid the point is that human beings are far more holographic than that. What we aspire to be or achieve is far more likely to happen if it connects with what inspires us and therefore adds meaning and purpose to our dreams.
| Why dreams abort |
To address our dreams at the level of doing alone without addressing who we need to be in terms of beliefs, qualities etc could result in conflict that sabotages the birth of our dreams near inception. Consider the sales person who tirelessly works the numbers to get the sales but doesn’t believe he/she deserves to have more money. Dreams and goals start as seeds of thoughts in the mind. Just as a human being is created in the womb, there is still a gestation period where proper nurturing needs to take place to bring to birth this human being. So many dreams get aborted in the mind because of the lack of purpose, conflicting values and beliefs, poor environmental conditioning and stimulation in the growth phase. At some point many of us disconnect with or remain unconscious to what really inspires us because we are too busy making a living by society's rules to actually live and listen more closely to our heart in that process
| The Power of the Mind To Determine Outcome |
The mind is powerful to create, nurture and destroy dreams at any point from conception to birth. Many of us believe in error that those who are successful have special qualities that give them a distinct advantage to achieve their dreams. Yet this is not borne out by the real life testimonies of those who have become successful. Consider Colonel Sanders who created Kentucky Fried Chicken, Thomas Edison who invented the light bulb – none of these were of sound educational merit and faced rejection many times before breaking through to success. We were all created with an amazing brain that is a powerhouse of creativity – some tap into this asset, others do not. When you consider that scientists have only discovered 15% of the brain's capacity this only points to show we are capable of far more than we have discovered, not less. We need to change our minds about our capacity as human beings. Later I will introduce you to your Six Advisors who are each advising you at any one time on a particular matter. More importantly you will learn how to master those advisors and think in a way that will support your dreams. In the next issue we will look at how you can start resculpturing your mind immediately.

| The power of questions to shape your life |
No matter what your life has been about up till now, you have within your reach the tools to sculpture or re-sculpture your mind. It all starts with asking empowering questions of your life depending on the picture or outcome you are attempting to create. This has been the single most powerful technique that started to reshape my life and created such outcomes as co-authoring an international bestseller and coaching an ex premiership and international football player. The science behind the function of questions is akin to conducting a computer search of a particular topic by keying the topic in question into a search browser and pressing the search button. When you ask a question, your brain sets about to do a computer like search to generate question- related solutions. The answer(s) may come immediately or at any future point – notice the newsletter starts off with a question and is shaped by that question.
| Examples and Benefits of Empowering Questions |
The more specific your questions the more specific and targeted the search and solutions generated. Some examples of empowering questions are...How can I use this situation to move me towards my life purpose? What is the seed of opportunity in this adversity? In what way can I learn and grow from this situation? How can I make new friends who share similar core values to myself? Some of the many benefits of asking empowering questions are that:- They focus you towards your goal They bring direction and alignment to your goals They heighten awareness to possibilities that relate to your goal They give another angle or perspective on a situation
| Quality Questions, Quality Life |
Tony Robbins, renowned coach, author and motivational speaker likens questions to the steering wheel of a car, giving focus and direction. Debbie Ford considered the subject matter that important she devoted an entire book to it called ‘The Right Questions’. The questions we ask are that powerful to create and shape our lives that Tony Robbins stated that the quality of our lives are determined by the quality of the questions we ask. So what is the quality of the life you desire? Work back from this to start to create quality questions. And if you feel stuck in any aspect of your life, generally derailed or lost, or you want to change lifestyle or realise dreams, start by drawing up 2 or 3 empowering questions. Note them down and leave space to capture the possible solutions that start to emerge in time. In the next issue we look at sculpturing a powerful internal environment for speedy learning of the knowledge and skills to achieve your desired outcomes.

| The Road Less Travelled |
We discussed in previous newsletters the importance of knowing who we are, having purpose driven goals and how to start resculpturing the mind using the power of questions (see newsletter archive opposite if you are a newer subscriber)
Achieving our dreams can sometimes be fraught with loneliness particularly if that goes against traditional thinking or conventional wisdom. If our childhood years were powerful in contributing to the mindset and beliefs we now hold, then the environment we NOW CHOOSE to create will be powerful to recondition the mind to align to our current aspirations
| Creating A Powerful External Environment |
Creating a powerful environment consists of two broad areas - creating a powerful external environment and creating a powerful internal environment. Let's take a look at external environment.
We need to create and choose an external environment that will support our aspirations. Consider that we process information daily through our 5 senses. Therefore what you expose yourself to regularly will condition your mind. The quality of your life will be determined by the quality of your growth.
Continuous exposure to people in the field of personal development who have gone on to achieve their dreams is essential to momentum and has a very powerful conditioning effect. I continually tend to my personal development for continued growth.
| Develop a sense of community |
Choose your friends by the life you wish to lead and those who will inspire you and are rich in the qualities you wish to develop. Seek out mentors and teachers who share similar core values. If you are currently surrounded by a lot of negative people, choose how you will lovingly shed that negativity and ceate a new empowering personal community of like minded people whom you can spend time with. Let me know if you would like to develop a community forum through this newsletter group.
In the next newsletter we will look at creating a powerful internal environment...plus an exciting new product launch on a powerful mind tool. Stay tuned!

| The Imbalanced Mind |
Most of us have been conditioned to look outside of ourselves for results and whilst it is not entirely invalid to do so, when we do not see those results we tend to blame things outside of ourselves thereby rendering ourselves victims of circumstance. As mentioned before scientists have discovered that we use no more than 10% of our brain at the most. We therefore have a vast untapped internal environment which when tapped can have a huge impact and role to play in achieving our life aspirations.
| Accelerated Learning Techniques |
I want to introduce you to a powerful mindtool to start to remedy this and one which has had phenomenal impact in my life – accelerated learning techniques. Traditionally most of us were taught subjects at school rather than being taught how to learn. We were also taught in a way that was not necessarily brain based resulting in a very hard graft learning experience. The difference to our lives had we been taught how to learn is that we would have been able to apply the skill of learning not only to any subject but any body of knowledge and skills we needed to develop in order to impact our personal and professional life.
Accelerated learning techniques is a group of techniques which equip you with the skill of learning how to learn and in a way that aligns with how the brain learns which in turn speeds up the process of learning. In what has been commonly referred to as the information age he or she who is a competent, fast learner will become a skilled navigator of life and achieve their goals far quicker. Accelerated learning techniques had everything to do with my becoming a bestselling international co-author and can greatly impact your life too.

Powerful Mind Newsletter |
How can I create readiness to live my dreams?
Quick Links...
| Dear anita,
Below is your August 2006 newsletter, Creating a State of Readiness To Live Your Dreams . Please feel free to email me comments or questions
| Readiness v Inertia |
I have recently been asked how I managed to create an accelerated learning techniques online multimedia teaching product. Well in short I used accelerated learning techniques to develop the knowledge and skill to do this. However even though I wanted to do this, for a long time there was a sort of inertia that set within me every time I thought about it especially when it came to dealing with the internet. Even though my intuition was guiding me to embrace what internet technology could do for my business, I basically flirted with the concept rather than fully embrace and engage with it to make things happen.
| From Mental Inertia to Mental Readiness |
Sometimes there are things we wish to achieve differently but we are not ready to make that change. There is a lack of emotional and psychological push or pull that usually signals readiness to go for it. So how do we close that gap? A simple yet gentle process is to define the characteristics, beliefs and values you need to achieve your dreams and expose yourself regularly to the personal development teachings that will develop those things in you. This very process will condition you towards a state of readiness.
| Asking an Empowering Question |
Another important aspect is to ask yourself 'what am I ready to bring about in my life right now?' or 'what am I ready to receive or see happen in my life now?' It may be that you are ready for certain aspects of change towards your dreams. It is important to identify that as it will signal what you are ready to see manifested now, and will create momentum towards the bigger picture of your life.
Please feel free to post your comments or questions in a post it area I have created in my blog - click link opposite. My hope is to create multiway dialogue and a community feel where we can each learn from and inspire and encourage each other.

Putting down Mental Anchors For Change |
Powerful Mind Newsletter |
How can I equip myself mentally for change?
Quick Links...
| Dear anita,
Below is your September 2006 newsletter, Putting Down Mental Anchors For Change . Please feel free to email me comments or questions
| Mental Defence Mechanisms |
In the last newsletter we looked at creating readiness for change. Usually change evokes anxiety and stress which causes us to resort to use of our mental defence mechanisms to reduce discomfort. Some examples are Suppression where we verbally underplay how uncomfortable we are feeling. Rationalisation is where we explain away something disappointing to lessen the pain eg. 'I didn't want that job anyway'. Projection is where we make our own problem to be someone elses. Denial is where we may deny to ourselves our emotions or that a problem or challenge exists. Avoidance is where we may refuse to talk or face something at all. There are many more and you may recognise some of these for yourself.
| Mental Anchors |
So how do we mitigate these natural tendencies and destress the process of change? One way is to put down mental anchors that will hold and sustain us through change by noticing and acknowledging our mental strengths and then playing to them. Also to go for the little tweaks in the day to day actions that will make a big difference in the long term rather than looking for the big leap.
Examples of mental strengths may be identifying empowering beliefs and internal dialogue such as 'I can overcome any challenge with support'. Values, those things which hold importance and worth to us can also serve as anchors such as personal growth
| Introducing Your Six Advisors |
In the next issue I will introduce more fully your Six Advisors who represent six main domains of your thinking ready and willing to advise you on any matter. Nobel prize winning research has now enabled us to measure our thoughts based on what we value, which for the first time means we can take the guess work out of how we are thinking and accurately identify our strong advisors and thought processes and ones we may want to mitigate or retrain through our strong advisors in order to achieve our life aspirations

Powerful Mind Newsletter |
Taking a step back

| Dear anita,
Below is your October 2006 newsletter, The Power of a Pause . Please feel free to email me comments or questions
| Why Pause? |
I do apologise for the slight delay in delivery of this newsletter due to technical challenges.
In my coaching practice I come across many people who describe cluttered thinking in the face of some big challenges. yet it has also been my experience that when they take time to stop, take a step back and give room for their thoughts and inner voice to surface from the day to day 'noise' answers to their situation start to appear.
| Counter Stressful thinking |
Many say to me that they do not have the time to stop such is the pressure in their lives and my challenge to you would simply be that you do not have the time NOT to pause if you wish to produce the sort of clutter free thinking that will create different solutions.
It has been said that the definition of insanity is to do the same thing repeatedly yet expect different results. So if you feel stuck right now, pause and take a step back even if you inject 5 minute pauses into your day. Allow yourself to become quiet. Focus on nature if that helps relax and quieten your mind, and then listen out. You may surprise yourself with what presents itself to your mind!

| Nobel Prize Research |
In September's newsletter I mentioned that I would introduce you to a powerful thinking system. Well in the early 1900s a man called Robert Hartmann devised a scientific and mathematical system that could measure a person's thoughts based on what he/she currently valued. His system is based in the field of Axiology which is the study of human values and value judgements. The research won the Nobel Prize, and now allows us to accurately measure how we are thinking based on what we are valuing.
| The Value |
Behind every behaviour, personality, decision, emotion and attitude lies a thought. It drives everything mentioned so far and if we are to significantly impact circumstances in our lives we must understand our thinking first in order to know how to master it. From the research mentioned thoughts came to fall in six master categories known as your Six Advisors
| Your Six Advisors |
These first three advisors are known as external world advisors in that they advise us on matters in the outside world
Empathy/Intuition Advisor which is about the capacity to accurately see the world through another person's eyes
Practical Judgement Advisor which is about the capacity to be fully present in the 'now' and complete tasks in a timely, efficient manner
Systems Thinking Advisor which is about the capacity to think clearly, plan, solve problems and be open to other new and creative ideas
Many of us struggle to appreciate things from another person's view let alone be able to think with clarity and be open to new ideas when we are so caught up with survival and immediate concerns. Furthermore we tend to live either in the past or the future and struggle to really embrace the present, yet now is all we have.
Think of what your world would be like if you were fully open to the present and fully able to show up with all six senses alive to the now and other people and ideas? Use the power of pausing to help you reengage with the now and see what you notice that you never noticed before. Capture what you notice about the way you are currently thinking about life and what your common self talk is before.
In the next newlsetter we introduce three internal world advisors
My thanks to all who have completed the survey so far. I will leave the survey up for this month to allow for as much feedback as possible. Please note that these are filled in anonymously so you do not have to feel anxious about providing feedback as it does not ask for your name. Just click on the survey link opposite.
